More than 36,000 people were killed, primarily by the enormous tsunamis it generated. Decades later, a new volcanic island — \u003cstrong\u003eAnak Krakatoa, meaning “Child of Krakatoa”\u003c\/strong\u003e — emerged from the collapsed caldera and has remained volcanically active ever
